New Lyft program lets users book a ride to get their COVID vaccine or fund a ride for others

Lyft launched new website to help people book COVID-19 vaccine rides or to fund a ride for someone in need, according to a blog post from the rideshare company.

Users can schedule a ride for themselves or others to vaccination sites through the Lyft app. Funded rides will be facilitated through non-profit partners including United Way Worldwide, National Asian Pacific Center on Aging, the NAACP, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the National Down Syndrome Society.These organizations will help identify people who need rides, such as low-income communities, communities of color and seniors.

As part of its Vaccine Access program, Lyft is also partnering with with Hilton and Delta Air Lines to incentivize Hilton Honors, Delta SkyMiles and Chase Ultimate Rewards members to "Fund a Ride" for people who need a lift to go get inoculated.

Through May 31, Hilton will award 2,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points to members who link their Hilton Honors and Lyft accounts and contribute a minimum of $5. Hilton will also match member contributions up to $50,000. Points can be redeemed in multiple ways, including hotel stays and Lyft rides.

Meanwhile, Delta will award a one-time bonus of 250 miles to the first 15,000 members who link their Delta SkyMiles and and Lyft accounts and contribute a minimum of $5 through Fund a Ride feature through May 31.

JP Morgan Chase customers who use a Sapphire, Freedom or Ink card can earn 10x total points or cash back on purchases made through Fund a ride. In a , Lyft noted that the bank is also planning to offer other incentives.

"The combined strength of all of our partners, with our ability to reach vulnerable communities, enables us to support equitable vaccine access in communities that need it most," said Lyft Co-Founder and President John Zimmer.
