Making light work of emerging micropollutants

Carbon-based organic micropollutants in water can be removed by treatment with high-intensity pulses of light in a procedure developed and demonstrated by researchers at KAUST.

Security

Creating deeper defense against cyber attacks

To address the growing threat of cyberattacks on industrial control systems, a KAUST team including Fouzi Harrou, Wu Wang and led by Ying Sun has developed an improved method for detecting malicious intrusions.

Electronics & Semiconductors

Welcoming composite inks into the fold

A screen-printing approach to creating foldable circuits could make many functional devices easier and cheaper to mass produce.

Telecom

Airborne antennas to address EMF concerns

Movable airborne antennas receiving cellphone signals could reduce EMF exposure while offering higher data transmission speed and using less power.

Energy & Green Tech

Strong sunlight powers passive cooling device

A simple cooling system driven by the capture of passive solar energy could provide low-cost food refrigeration and living space cooling for impoverished communities with no access to the electricity grid. The system, which ...

Electronics & Semiconductors

Helping semiconductors find a cooler way to relax

Bandgap engineering can improve the performance of optoelectronic devices that aim to harness the energy of "hot" electrons, research from KAUST shows.

Energy & Green Tech

Electric gains in battery performance

A high-performance version of the zinc-ion battery will enable stationary energy storage that promises to be cheaper, safer and more environmentally friendly than lithium-ion batteries.
